Congratulations to Professor Ming-Chun Lu for winning the Hou Jin-Dui Outstanding Honor Award
The "Hou Jin-Dui Outstanding Honor Award," organized by the Yi-Hsien Education Foundation in Taipei, held its award ceremony on February 11. Professor Ming-Chun Lu, a distinguished professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at National Chung Hsing University, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to green technology research and was honored with the 2024 "Hou Jin-Dui Outstanding Honor Award" in the Environmental Protection category.
The "Hou Jin-Dui Outstanding Honor Award" is one of Taiwan's most prestigious academic and technical achievement awards, recognizing scholars and experts who have made outstanding contributions in scientific research, engineering technology, or industrial innovation. The award is presented in six categories: Basic Sciences - Mathematics & Physics, Basic Sciences - Biology, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Environmental Protection, and Green Building, with only one recipient per category. Given the limited number of awardees, the selection criteria are exceptionally rigorous, making this recognition highly competitive. As a result, the award is not only a personal honor but also a testament to the collective efforts of the academic and industrial communities, encouraging further advancements in these fields.
Professor Lu specializes in green technology development, encompassing four major areas: metal and non-metal resource recovery, advanced oxidation technologies for green water and wastewater treatment, green disinfection technologies, and techniques for enhancing fuel quality and combustion efficiency. His research has yielded significant results in improving energy and resource efficiency as well as recovering valuable metal and non-metal resources from wastewater. In recent years, he has focused on key technologies for the net-zero circular economy, particularly in carbon dioxide capture and resource reutilization.
To date, Professor Lu has published over 200 SCI journal papers and holds 76 patents. His innovative achievements have not only been recognized by the industry but have also made substantial contributions to society by driving technological progress and addressing complex technical challenges.
In promoting international academic collaboration, Professor Lu has played a leading role in establishing sister-school partnerships with major universities in Southeast Asia. He has also actively facilitated academic exchanges with renowned global institutions, further enhancing Taiwan’s reputation on the international academic stage.
The selection committee, in its recommendation, commended Professor Lu for his multifaceted contributions to academic research, technological innovation, international collaboration, and education. His remarkable achievements underscore his status as a leading scholar in his field. The award serves to acknowledge his significant impact on academia and societal development.
